The US Navy has awarded a contract to Noresco to install energy infrastructure upgrades to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) south-east at Fort Worth.

Under the $7m contract, the company will help the base manage high temperature and humidity during the summer and significantly reduce the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and environmental pollutants.

The infrastructure upgrades to equipment and controls used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning and lighting will improve performance, reliability, aesthetics and working conditions.

Noresco will also install specialised capacitor banks to improve the base’s power distribution system and avoid penalties by the local utility.

The energy infrastructure upgrades will save more than $14m due to reduced energy use, electric demand and operational costs over the 15-year project term.

The facilities are expected to consume 34% less energy after the completion of the upgrade project.
