The US Navy has awarded a contract to Caster Concepts to build a high-performance test dynamometer for the Puget Sound Naval Facility in Bremerton, Washington, along with onsite training and support.

Under the contract, the company will engineer and manufacture a test dynamometer use to optimise the control systems that power a 325hp electric motor.

Caster Concepts will also design the custom shipping container that will house the test equipment during transport and serve as a mobile laboratory during testing.

The test dynamometer will be equipped with speed and torque sensors and uses PC-based data acquisition measurement hardware to monitor and record performance.

Manufacturing work will be carried out by Caster Concepts at its facility in Albion, Michigan, or by one of its sister companies – Fabricating Concepts, The Machine Center or Triple E Manufacturing.

The test dynamometer is scheduled to be delivered in May 2010.
