The BMT team unveiled a novel tri-bow monohull platform, which is made from aluminium.
Technical director Ed Dudson said the new design was sized to occupy a similar footprint to the existing LCU mk10 and would be capable of operating with UK amphibious support vessels.
“Our innovative design meets the demanding UK MoD requirement for an FLC with high transit speed and high payload capacity while demonstrating excellent on-beach stability,” he said.
The new FLC hull-form design allows speeds of up to 28.5kt, heavy-payload operations carrying four all-terrain vehicles, and enhanced sea and on-beach stability.
Additional features of the FLC design include easily accessible machinery and three high-speed MTU diesel engines paired up with waterjets to provide reliability and redundancy.
A cost and performance-based appraisal for the unveiled prototype will be conducted by the UK MoD with other options determined in the FLC Design Solutions Study.
