US and Spanish Navy ships successfully demonstrated the fighting capabilities of the Aegis combat system during joint combat system ship qualification trials (CSSQT) conducted in the waters near Point Mugu, California, US.

The US Navy destroyers USS Dewey (DDG 105) and USS Wayne E Meyer (DDG 108) participated in the test along with the Spanish Navy frigate Alvaro de Bazan (F-101).

During the trials, the Aegis integrated naval weapon system, was evaluated for combat-readiness and air defence capabilities through a series of comprehensive exercises, including manned raids and electronic attack scenarios.

The Aegis Combat System including SPY-1 radar, when paired with the mk41 vertical launching system, is capable of delivering missiles for every mission and threat environment in naval warfare.

The US and Spain previously participated in a combined CSSQT exercise in 2007.
