The Russian Forces Pacific Navy has deployed a warship detachment to participate in the UNO international campaign to fight piracy in the waters off the Horn of Africa.

The ship group includes an Udaloy Class missile destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov with two on-board Ka-32 Class helicopters, the liquid carrier Pechenega and an ocean-going rescue tug.

RF Pacific Navy Information and Public Relations Service head Captain Roman Martov said the Russian detachment was going to keep combat watch in the Indian Ocean and convoy merchant ships from different countries.

During the deployment, the helicopters aboard the vessel will carry out the air reconnaissance every day and report to the group commander on the sea rovers’ position and course.

This is the fourth RF Pacific Navy ship group to take part in the anti-pirate campaign in the Gulf of Aden.
