The US Navy says it will invest $16bn before 2015 in an effort to protect its data and secure operations from cyber attacks.

As part of the investment plan, the navy is seeking bids for security technologies to build a prototype system, which would ensure cyber operations are not shut down during a cyber war.

The cybersecurity bids call for a pro-active cyber network defence and information assurance solution that can be adapted and integrated into an advanced prototype.

The navy also intends to use the prototype to develop new technologies to protect all data through the Department of the Navy (DoN) networks.

The US Navy is especially interested in algorithms to detect malware. They extend beyond conventional anti-virus detection algorithms and techniques to discover malware entry points.
