General Dynamics Electric Boat will support the Common Missile Compartment programme, currently under development for the US Ohio-class replacement submarine and for the UK’s Successor ballistic-missile submarine.

Under a $26.3m contract, General Dynamics Electric Boat will continue procurement of prototype material as well as manufacturing and testing activities for the programme.

The contract is a modification to a $76m contract awarded in December 2008 for the design and development of a Common Missile Compartment for the next-generation ballistic missile submarines being developed for the Royal Navy and the US Navy.

The original contract has options, which if exercised would make the value to more than $630m.
