US Navy Establishes Cyber Forces

The US Navy has established cyber forces (CYBERFOR) at Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek-Fort Story in Norfolk, Virginia.

Naval Network Warfare Command (NETWARCOM) commander Vice Admiral H Denby Starling II has assumed command of CYBERFOR and will report to commander, US Fleet Forces.

CYBERFOR is the type command for signals intelligence, electronic warfare, information operations, intelligence, cryptology, cyber, networks and space disciplines.

The mission of CYBERFOR is to organise and prioritise manpower, training, modernisation and maintenance requirements and capabilities of command and control architecture and networks.

In addition, CYBERFOR organises cryptologic and space-related systems, intelligence and information operations activities and will deliver interoperable, relevant and ready forces at the right time, at minimal cost.
