Under the £50m ($80.7m) contract, Cammell Laird will construct the flight deck for the Royal Navy’s next-generation aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth.
The Queen Elizabeth Class is a two-ship class including HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, worth £4bn ($6.4bn), being built for the Royal Navy.
HMS Queen Elizabeth is expected to enter service in 2014 while HMS Prince of Wales is anticipated in 2016.
Manufacturing work for the flight decks will be carried out over three years, after which the decks will be transported by river to Rosyth, Scotland, where both vessels will be assembled.
