The US Navy has awarded a $34.7m contract to Sikorsky Aerospace to provide organiational, selected intermediate and limited depot-level maintenance for 44 F-5 aircraft operated by adversary squadrons.

The F-5 aircraft is a twin-engine, tactical fighter and attack aircraft used for simulated air-to-air combat training and adversary combat tactics.

Work will be carried out at naval air stations in Florida, Nevada and Arizona and is expected to be complete by December 2010.

The contract has been awarded by the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland.
