The Brazilian Navy has awarded a contract to Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation to deliver four S-70B anti-submarine warfare / anti-surface warfare helicopters.

Under the $163.8m contract, the company will supply SH-3A/B Sea King helicopters as well as associated modifications, production and transportation.

These SH-3A/B Sea Kings will accompany the navy’s AH-11 Super Lynx models and will replace the aging Sea King helicopters.

The design of the Seahawk is derived from the US Navy’s new MH-60R but includes enhanced features in terms of electromechanical and drivetrain changes.

The contract has been awarded by the US Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland, under the foreign military sales programme, and will be carried out in Connecticut, New York and Alabama in June 2012.
