Goodrich will supply lightweight support structures to host and protect acoustic sensors on Spanish Navy submarines under a contract awarded by Lockheed Martin.

Under the contract the company will supply three shipsets of cylindrical array sonar support structures and four shipsets of passive ranging and flank array sonar fairings for the navy’s new S-80 diesel-electric submarines.

The support structures and sonar fairings will host the acoustic sensors, which are used for undersea threat detection and identification.

The hydrodynamic shape of lightweight, non-metallic fairings reduces noise and drag for the submarine.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Florida and the deliveries are expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2010.
