The US Navy’s last operational UH-3H Sea King helicopter will be officially decommissioned on 11 December 2009, following 50 years of naval service.

The Sikorsky UH-3H Sea King helicopter, which had been designated for use in a cargo and utility transport role will be passed on to the US Marine Corps.

The aging Sea King was replaced by SH-60F Seahawk helicopter in the mid-1990s.

The remaining Sea King helicopters have been used in search and rescue missions as well as logistical roles.
