The US Navy has received the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) from Northrop Grumman following the successful completion of its mid-life refuelling and complex overhaul (RCOH) programme and sea trials.

Northrop redelivered the ship after the completion of its modernisation, maintenance and guarantee work, which were carried out at Northrop’s Newport News shipyard.

The overhaul included modernisation of the ship’s control and piping systems, installation of a new oxygen generator system, and repairs to the boat and aircraft cranes.

The 332.85m-long, 40.84m-wide Nimitz Class supercarrier has a full load displacement of 97,000t and can accommodate a crew complement of approximately 5,680.
