The US Navy has awarded a $197m contract to Raytheon for life-cycle engineering and support for the LPD 17 Class amphibious warfare ships.

Under the five-year contract, the company will provide the shipboard wide-area network, integrated product data environment, total ship information management and integrated ship electronics architecture the vessels.

The 208m-long and 32m-wide LPD 17 Class amphibious transport ship has a maximum displacement of approximately 25,000t.

Work will be carried out at the Expeditionary Warfare Center, San Diego, California and at the Seapower Capability Center, Rhode Island, US.

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems has received the contract as an extension to the previously awarded life-cycle engineering and support contract in 2005.
