The French Navy, through its DCNS shipyards, has contracted Sagem to produce a new series of modernised Sigma 40XP inertial navigation for the navy’s SNA Class nuclear attack submarines.

Under the contract, the company will integrate two Sigma 40XP inertial navigation units in each submarine’s combat system. The Sigma 40XP navigation system incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, including very-high-performance laser gyros and advanced digital filtering techniques.

The system is designed for use on new-generation military submarines, even in extreme operating conditions.

In addition to the navigation systems, Sagem will also supply the optronic, electronic warfare and radar mast system on the nuclear attack submarines.
