The UK Royal Navy has awarded a contract to Babcock to provide in-service communications support for the navy’s Trafalgar and Vanguard Class submarines.

Under the contract, the company will provide life time support for the communications coherency in submarines (CCSM) system in the Trafalgar Class submarines and a real-time messaging system in Vanguard Class submarines.

In addition Babcock will manage and operate the communications shore integration and development facilities (CSIF and CSDF) at Devonport for both submarine classes.

The CCSM provides a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)-based open architecture, message handling and data distribution environment which significantly enhance the data-handling capacity of the submarines.
