The Indian Navy has deployed two warships off the coast of the Seychelles and Mauritius to perform surveillance and anti-piracy patrols in Somali waters.

The amphibious warfare vessel INS Shardul and the Indian Coastguard offshore patrol vessel INS Varuna will join the already deployed Talwar Class guided missile frigate in the Gulf of Aden for anti-piracy patrols.

The two ships have been deployed to the Seychelles and Mauritius for training purposes and are expected to remain in the region for some time to execute anti-piracy missions.

The Indian Navy began anti-piracy operations in October 2008 and have been safeguarding Indian ships across the pirate-affected waters.
