The Royal Thai Navy has awarded a contract to Brazilian aerospace company Embraer for a second ERJ-135 jet aircraft.

Of all the south-east-Asian countries, Thailand is the first military operator to use the ERJ-135 jet for civilian and military official transportation as well as medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) missions.

The ERJ-135 is a 3,148km-range airliner modified for the military and a member of the Embraer family of regional jet aircraft.

The 26.3m-long aircraft can accommodate a total of 37 passengers and can fly at a cruising speed of 833km/h.

The jet aircraft can handle a variety of missions and offers military customers a combination of modern equipment, advanced systems redundancy and low maintenance costs.

In addition, the contract with the navy includes a logistical package and provisions for a MEDEVAC installation kit.

The Royal Thai Defence purchased two aircraft from Embraer in November 207 one for the Royal Thai Navy and the other for the Thai Army.
