The Royal Norwegian Navy’s first NH90 helicopter has been undergoing operational testing off Norwegian Coastguard vessel KV Nordkapp at Helligvær in Vestfjorden.

The testing is part of qualification tests designed to ensure the operational requirements for take-off and landing, an wether the aircraft can handle the pitch and roll of the ship.

According to Norwegian Armed Forces the tests began under very favourable conditions, which declined with winds of up to 60kt blowing, following a storm warning.

The NHI NH90 is expected to be delivered during the second half of 2010. The naval weapon system aboard the helicopter can undergo anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare operations autonomously.
