The US Navy has awarded a $61.8m contract to General Dynamics Electric Boat for submarine modernisation and maintenance as well as reactor-plant planning yard services.

Under the contract, the company will perform non-nuclear submarine modernisation and repair services in support of submarines, the shipping port floating dry-dock as well as support and service craft at the naval submarine support facility in Groton.

In addition Electric Boat will provide reactor-plant planning yard services for nuclear submarines and support yard services for moored training ships.

The contract is a modification to the five-year contract initially awarded in October 2006 and has a cumulative value of $201.8m if all options are exercised.
