The US Navy has awarded a $320.6m contract to General Dynamics Electric Boat to provide engineering services and technical support for nuclear submarines.

Under the five-year contract, the company will provide design, engineering, material and logistics support and conduct research and development for all active navy submarines and submersibles.

In addition, Electric Boat will provide information services, technical support for submarine maintenance and modernisation activities, training, and facility and cost reduction support.

An initial submarine support contract was awarded to Electric Boat in November 2008, the recent contract has a cumulative value of $1.8bn if all options are exercised.
