The Royal UK Navy has awarded a contract to IT company Fujitsu Technology Solutions to provide technical support services for the navy’s fleet of nuclear submarines.

Under the £1.2m contract the company will build information technology for the naval nuclear propulsion programme (NNPP), a joint UK and US initiative for the next generation of defence submarines.

More than 200 different components, including PCs, robotic storage tape libraries, servers, software applications, network switches and video conferencing systems are among the specifications of the system to be developed.

In addition, the company will provide ongoing support for the installed systems as part of the NNPP programme.

The system is scheduled to be delivered in two-and-a-half months.
