The US Navy has awarded a $23.3m contract to technology solutions provider STS International to provide the navy with the Quad-S maritime sensor.

Quad-S is a multifunction mobile, rapidly deployable, non-conventional surveillance system that can identify and locate unexpected approaching watercraft, detect swimmers and scan the docks and ship hulls for underwater improvised explosive devices.

Work will be carried out in Florida and is expected to be complete by September 2014.

STS has received the contract from the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NAVSEA), Panama City Division in Florida.
