The US Navy has awarded a contract to information technology firm American Systems Corporation to provide technology to manage and optimise its energy resources.

Under the contract, the company will design, procure, install and test advanced metering infrastructures at several locations throughout the navy region south-west as part of the advanced metering infrastructure programme.

The Advanced Metering Infrastructure will enable the allocation and management of electricity, natural gas and water and reduce energy consumption through better allocation of energy resources by using measurement and analysis while providing regular usage data.

The solution includes software applications, communications networks, data acquisition systems, and smart meters that collect and deliver information on electric, gas, water and steam usage.

Work will be carried out at nine individual sites throughout California as well as in Fallon, Nevada.
