The US Navy has awarded a $25m contract to Boeing to update the navy’s P-8A Poseidon, a long-range, anti-submarine, surveillance aircraft.

The multimission maritime aircraft is designed to perform anti-submarine warfare and will carry torpedoes, depth charges, Harpoon anti-shipping missiles and other weapons.

Under the contract, the company will provide services related to identifiers associated with the airborne sensor on the aircraft.

The work, expected to be complete by February 2012, will be carried out in Seattle.
