The US Navy has accepted the delivery of Arleigh Burke Class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG-105) from Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.

USS Dewey is equipped with an integrated naval weapon system, Aegis combat system, and incorporates offensive and defensive weapons systems designed to support maritime warfare.

The warship has completed super trials in the Gulf of Mexico and will undergo a range of operations from peacetime presence and crisis management to sea control and power projection.

USS Dewey is the third navy ship named after Admiral George Dewey, hero of the Battle of Manila during the Spanish-American war.

The ship is the 57th destroyer of its class and is scheduled to be commissioned in December 2009.
