The fuel cell requested ordered by the navy, uses a unconventional, AIP-fuel-cell system driven by pure hydrogen gas and pure oxygen as opposed to a conventional fuel cell, which uses oxygen extracted from the air.
The new fuel cell is being developed by the company alongside their innovative Polaris 140 fuel cell, a system used for recreational vehicles such as boats, travel trailers and motor homes.
The system used in the fuel cell technology also allows it to be built more compact with greater efficiency.
