Electric Boat will conduct repairs on USS Hartford, a US Navy submarine which collided with the amphibious ship USS New Orleans in the Strait of Hormuz on March 2009.

After the collision, the submarine’s fin was damaged, but the propulsion plant was unaffected.

Under a $65.2m contract, the company will install a hull patch, bridge access trunk, fin and port retractable bow plane as well as will carry out selected maintenance work.

The US Navy has awarded the third contract to repair the submarine, bringing the total cost of the repairs to $102.6m so far.
