The Indian Navy is all set to purchase five Kamov Ka-31 helicopters from Russia under a $20m contract.

The Kamov Ka-31 is an airborne early warning helicopter that features a large early warning radar antenna under the central body of the craft and a simplified bulky electro-optical sensory suite beneath the cockpit.

Ka-31 is intended for long-range detection of air targets and can track up to 40 air and ground targets and will significantly enhance the fleet’s airborne and surface-based detection capabilities.

The Indian Government’s highest body for arms purchases recently approved the purchase deal.
