The US Navy has signed a contract with the multi-industrial company Johnson Controls to improve energy savings and efficiency at Naval Base Guam located on Apra Harbour, Gaum.

Under the energy-savings performance contract, the company will provide a large solar power generation system and energy-efficient air conditioning systems.

In addition, the company will retrofit more than 9,000 lighting fixtures and 87 air handlers at Gaum and will install a building management system to serve the 49 buildings across the naval base.

The contract is expected to reduce energy costs at the naval station by $1.7m a year.
