The Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet has escorted an international convoy of ships off the Horn of Africa and the Gulf of Aden.

During the patrol the Russian Pacific Fleet warships patrolled the passage of a Liberian tanker ship with 26 Russian crewmen onboard as well as a Gibraltarian carrier ship with six Russian nationals and five Ukrainians.

The fleet entered the pirate-threatened areas off the Horn of Africa and the Gulf of Aden on 29 July 2009 to escort the ships.
