The Australian Navy has contracted The Underwater Center Fremantle (TUCF), a submarine escape training facility to provide escape training at HMAS Stirling in Fremantle Harbour in West Australia.
Australian Defence Personnel Minister Greg Combet said the contract will allow submariners to gain and maintain their qualifications quicker, in alignment with the navy’s submarine sustainability strategy.
The TUCF will simulate the interim pressurised escape from the navy’s Collins-Class submarine.
The navy submariners had previously undergone training in Quebec, Canada.
