The US Navy has awarded a $21.3m contract to General Dynamics to provide engineering services in support of the AN/BYG-1 tactical control system for the navy’s submarine fleet.

The latest AN/BYG-1 combat system consists of tactical control, weapons control, and tactical network subsystems each of them with inbuilt software algorithms.

Under the contract, the company will migrate the tactical control system from a technology insertion (TI-08) baseline to a TI-10 baseline and integrate advanced processing build (APB-09), and deploy the capability on multiple submarine platforms.

The contract, awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Mid Atlantic, will be carried out in multiple locations including Virginia and Rhode Island and is expected to be complete by July 2010.
