The Royal Navy of Oman has launched its first escort warship Al Shamikh from the Portsmouth Naval Base in the UK.

The ship has the endurance and ability to operate at sea for long periods and also has the capability to embark a helicopter during deployment

The Corvette vessel, designed and built by naval ship building and support company BVT Surface Fleet, is the first of three vessels under the navy’s Project Khareef.

The vessel will undergo surveillance patrols, deterrent operations, maritime disaster relief operations, joint and coalition operations as well as search and rescue.
