A test version of the Lockheed Martin-built F-35C Lightning II Navy aircraft for the US Navy is ready to be unveiled at Lockheed Martin’s Fort Worth assembly plant.

The first test aircraft will be unveiled on 28 July with scheduled flight testing to begin in 2010.

The latest version of the F-35 features catapult take-off abilities as well as an arrested landing mechanism to enable aircraft carrier landings.

The F-35C is expected to cost in the region of $60m but the price could be adjusted for inflation prior to the 2012 delivery date.
