The US Navy has awarded a $10.2m contract to General Dynamics to upgrade the submarine weapons control system for the Navy’s AN/BYG-1 submarine combat system.

Under the contract, the company will develop weapon control software and commercial off-the-shelf hardware upgrades for the AN/BYG-1 combat system on several classes of submarines.

The AN/BYG-1 is responsible for the integration of the tactical control, weapons control and tactical network subsystems on US Navy and Royal Australian Navy submarines.

The work will be carried out in Massachusetts, Virginia and Rhode Island, and is expected to be complete by December 2018.
