The Royal Navy has awarded a two-year contract to Analox Sensor Technology to supply emergency analysers to 72 submarines.

The safety devices are designed for use when a distressed submarine has lost power and is unable to surface.

The devices are used to accurately monitor oxygen and carbon dioxide levels as well as pressure and temperature inside the submarine escape compartment

Analox Sensor Technology sales and marketing director Vicky Brown said that the equipment was simple enough not to be disrupted by pressure increases onboard the submarine.

The company has already delivered two of the devices to senior instructors at the Submarine Escape Training Tank at Fort Blockhouse in Gosport, England.
