The US Navy has awarded a $10m contract to Lockheed Martin to perform concept studies for the Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) to aid future warships.

The scalable solid-state radar suite constitutes an S-Band radar, an X-Band radar and a Radar Suite Controller (RSC) that will enhance the capability of a ship to combat evolving anti-ship and ballistic missile threats.

The contract phases include technology development, engineering and manufacturing development, production and follow-on support.

The work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Moorestown, New Jersey.

The procurement for AMDR will be supervised by the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, DC.
