Turkey has signed an agreement with Germany to jointly build six submarines for the Turkish Naval Forces.
Under the agreement the Turkish Navy will get six Class-214 air-independent propulsion submarines to enhance its capabilities and execute longer underwater operations.
The German shipbuilding company Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW), part of the Thyssen Krupp Group, will build the submarines in association with Turkey’s Golcuk Naval Shipyard.
The HDW will prefabricate the structural and mechanical parts in Germany, while Turkey’s Shipyard will produce the electronic and weapon systems, including the sensor, communications, and data processing systems.
