The US Navy has awarded a $36m contract to EDO Communications and Countermeasures Systems in California for the production and support of electronic warfare systems in reinforcement of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Under the contract the company will procure and support 548 JCREW 2.1 radio-controlled improvised explosive device (RCIED) CREW systems.

The CREW systems include Spiral 2.1 vehicle-mounted systems as part of the Department of Defense’s joint counter RCIED electronic warfare programme.

The initiation of RCIED is supportedby the vehicle-mounted electronic jammers, Spiral 2.1 CREW systems.
