Russian Navy Commander Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky said that the construction of the second frigate would start at the St Petersburg Severnaya Verf shipyard.
“We intend to sharply increase the construction of ships of the main classes, and we have already taken the first steps in this direction,” Vysotsky said.
The 130m warship has a displacement of about 4,500t and a width of 16m with a range of more than 4,000 miles.
The weaponry of the ship include eight SS-NX-26 Yakhont anti-ship cruise missiles, a new 130mm gun mount, a Medvedka-2 ASW system and a Hurricane medium-range air defence missile system.
