The Turkish Navy has awarded a contract to defence security applications supplier OSI Geospatial to provide warship navigation systems.

International Systems Operations, a subsidiary of Canada-based OSI Geospatial has received the contract to establish up to eight navigation systems of which the first will be handed over in the third quarter of 2009.

A new combat warship with native capabilities using the principles of stealth technology in its design will be developed as part of this Turkish corvette programme.

The construction of the first Milgem Class destroyer, TCG Heybeliada is expected to be complete by 25 October 2010 and is likely to enter service in 2011.

The company has planned eight destroyers and four frigates making a total of 12 Milgem Class warships in advance for the Turkish Navy.
