The US Navy has awarded Raytheon a contract worth $54m to retrofit Super Hornet block II aircraft with APG-79 active electronically scanned array radars.

Under this contract, the company will replace currently installed APG-73 radars with APG-79 AESA radars in the F/A-18E/F aircraft, enhancing the capabilities of pilots and aircrews.

The company has provided 134 AESA radars to the Navy for the Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft.

The retrofitting will be performed in Mississippi, Dallas, El Segundo, and Massachusetts, and is expected to be complete in December 2010.
