New York research and development company Syracuse Research has won $95m defence contract with the US air force to develop sensor beam technology.

The US has been attempting to employ sensor beam technology along its border with Mexico; however, the current contactor for the project, Boeing, has had implementation problems.

Sensor beams will be used for offensive and defensive programmes, which include detecting enemy movements and intrusions.

The military will be testing the sensors at its military proving ground in Yuma, where Syracuse has offices.
