The UK Royal Navy has christened its fifth Astute Class submarine HMS Anson.

Secretary of State for Defence Dr Liam Fox said, “I am pleased to announce that Astute Class submarine hull 5 is to be named HMS Anson.

“She will join HMS Astute, HMS Ambush, HMS Artful and HMS Audacious,” he added.

The Astute Class vessel is a deep-diving and high-speed submarine, and has a displacement capacity of 7,400t.

The Astute Class will replace the Swiftsure and Trafalgar Classes from this year.
