Designed as a successor to the Riga Class frigate, the Krivak IV Class warship is outfitted with a Shtil medium-range air defence system, two Kashtan point defence systems and an anti-submarine warfare helicopter.
The Krivak IV Class vessel is also equipped with a 100mm gun, Club-N supersonic anti-ship missiles and two twin 533mm torpedo launchers, according to RIA Novosti.
Scheduled for construction by 2016, the new frigates are expected to be deployed with Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet based on the Crimean peninsula.
