The Moroccan Navy has received the first of three Sigma Class frigates, the Tarik ben Ziyad, from Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) following successful sea trials.

The three Sigma Class frigates are based on DSNS’s SIGMA-approach and are an advanced variant of the Sigma corvettes for the Indonesian Navy.

The frigates can be used for conventional naval tasks, maritime security operations and humanitarian aid operations.

The Tarik ben Ziyad vessel will begin her first journey to Morocco by the end of this month after the completion of crews training, which will be conducted by the Dutch Navy, according to Defence Professionals.
