The US Navy will commission its Arleigh Burke Class guided-missile destroyer, the future USS Spruance (DDG 111), on 1 October 2011.

The Spruance vessel is a multimission guided-missile destroyer and will operate in multithreat air, surface and subsurface scenarios.

Equipped with the navy’s Aegis Combat System, the ship is expected to enhance warfare capabilities and reduce lifetime support costs.

The Spruance destroyer successfully completed combined ‘super trials’ on 18 March in the Gulf of Maine.
