The US Navy has awarded a contract to Raytheon for the global positioning system-based positioning, navigation and timing service (GPS-NTS) programme for its surface and subsurface platforms.

Under the $32.2m contract, the company will be responsible for the design, development, testing and delivery of GPNTS.

GPNTS has been designed to replace the current navigation sensor system interface, which supports mission-critical real-time positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) data services.

Raytheon’s open architecture solution will allow hosting of data in a common computing environment to enhance the ship’s operability with onboard systems.

The company has partnered with Argon ST for the command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance markets.

Work will be carried out at Raytheon IDS’s Expeditionary Warfare Center in California, and Argon ST’s facility in Virginia, US.
